Who is this course for?

This course  is predominately for teachers to develop their digital literacy skills who are currently  using a limited number of technology resources in their teaching and learning or only have a basic knowledge. The course aims to help those teachers who have some knowledge of technology to take a more principled approach. The techniques will be especially relevant to anyone thinking of blending their teaching.

What tools are covered?

The aim is to cover a range of key technologies and look at how they can be exploited and used in a range of ways.  The key to this is a discussion of the challenges of  using technology into the teaching and learning as well as the ways that will deal with issues such as formative and summative assessment, feedback and student academic achievement.

What will the teachers learn?

  • to enhance language learning through digital storytelling
  • to promote creativity with talking avatars, filmmaking and animation
  • to make storyboards, get props and choose location, shoot and edit
  • to use different audio and video feedback tools
  • to use educational podcasting tools for promoting oracy
  • to create a photo story for promoting writing and speaking
  • to explore formative assessment tools and collaborative learning

How will the course be organised?

  • Daily opening sessions based around key topic presentations and discussions.
  • Hands on workshops where participants will develop key skills and work with key technologies.
  • Participants are expected to keep a reflective diary during the course, give a short presentation on the final day. The participants will prepare and present one individual lesson plan and one lesson plan in groups based on technological tools learned during the course.
